Job Description
The Trainee position is undertaken over a 2 year period with 6 monthly incremental reviews. As a member of the Links Housing Team, you will be supervised in the delivery of housing support services to clients with drug and alcohol or with a criminal justice background living in Surrey. Clients are frequently in chaos and experiencing difficulties finding and maintaining accommodation, who will be supported by the team and encouraged to live independently in the community.
As part of the team you will assist your colleagues to advocate and mediate with the client to enable the tenant to sustain their tenancy in a manner deemed appropriate by the client’s landlord; aim to empower the client leading to a more independent lifestyle, work with client to encourage them to take advantage of the appropriate provisions available within the community and to help engage clients with other appropriate agencies, liase with other agencies, in particular the local Housing Department and housing associations on client issues as well develop and maintain performance/activity information relating to the housing work carried out to be available, on database, to funding agencies etc.
We are looking for some who is enthusiastic with a willingness to learn, the ability to work as part of a team, the ability to engage with clients in a non-judgmental manner, good written and verbal communication skills. The successful applicant must have both a current driving licence and access to a car for work.
The Drug Strategy recognises ‘developing a competent substance misuse workforce... is crucial to ensuring a high standard of service delivery’ and the NTA notes that ‘... it is important that commissioners and services continue to work towads a workforce which is fully competent and able to demonstrate its competence’. The field needs more than just people with the ability to do their job, it needs a workforce which puts its potential into practice on the ground and because of the potential vulnerability of our client-group we need practitioners to work to the highest ethical standards.
Having identified the competences and underpinning know-how required in the role, we will ensure:

€¢ Any such shortfalls will be addressed through training, reading, supervision, and so on.
